North Platte Rail Days, the Canteen Cruise Fest and the North Platte Pow Wow are among Visit North Platte grant recipients in April. The Visit North Platte Board of Directors approved its next round of grant funding at the board's April 23 meeting. The travel organization awarded $67,247.98 for 14 organizations and events after receiving $94,227.98 in applications.

A mobile home in the 2500 block of West Eighth Street was destroyed by a fire early Thursday. North Platte Deputy Fire Marshal Brad Krichau said Friday that an ambulance crew from North Platte Fire Station No. 3 spotted the fire while traveling over the Buffalo Bill Avenue viaduct about 3 a.m. Thursday. That crew alerted North Platte 911 and Station No. 3 so that other crews could respond. Two people were in the home at the time, but escaped the fire with no injuries, Krichau said.

A Lexington man was sentenced to more than 5 years in federal prison for distribution of methamphetamine. Roberto Ceja Jr., 33, was sentenced to 66 months’ imprisonment by United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher, according to a press release from Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen’s office. There is no parole in the federal system. After Ceja is released from prison, he will begin a three-year term of supervised release.
