His son Scott Furrow said family came to town over the weekend, so they decided to celebrate early. He said about 20 family members went to a restaurant in Maywood and shared a meal and fun. Each year, the two businesses have honored women in several categories including business, education, government, medical, social services and volunteer.     “A Day’s Work” is an exhibition of artwork related to labor from the collection of the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The show opens Sept. 30 at the Prairie Arts Center Erickson Gallery and will run through the end of October. The exhibit presents depictions of work by 18 artists and encourages viewers to consider labor’s mental, physical, social, political and economic effects.

    The beloved story of “Cinderella” takes on a new twist in the Playhouse's most recent adaptation of the original Rodgers and Hammerstein version. The characters will be a little different than the familiar king and queen, said director Darrell Drullinger. The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, 30 and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 1; 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 6-7 and 2 p.m. on Oct. 8. Tickets for adults are $18 in advance of $20 at the door. Kids are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
