The family of World War II veteran Robert Furrow celebrated his 102nd birthday on Saturday, a few days ahead of his actual birthday Wednesday. His son Scott Furrow said family came to town over the weekend, so they decided to celebrate early. He said about 20 family members went to a restaurant in Maywood and shared a meal and fun. The family is requesting cards be sent to Bob Furrow, 217 Crook Ave., Curtis, NE 69025. Born in Elwood on Sept.

The North Platte Women of Achievement were recognized Thursday, April 7, 2023, at the Nebraskaland Bank and The North Platte Telegraph’s annual event. Each year, the two businesses have honored women in several categories including business, education, government, medical, social services and volunteer. On Thursday, the 2023 Women of Achievement winners were announced at a luncheon at Venue304.

“A Day’s Work” is an exhibition of artwork related to labor from the collection of the Sheldon Museum of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The show opens Sept. 30 at the Prairie Arts Center Erickson Gallery and will run through the end of October. The exhibit presents depictions of work by 18 artists and encourages viewers to consider labor’s mental, physical, social, political and economic effects.

“Live your passion, tell your story, change the world” reads the plaque that hangs on the wall in front of me at my cubicle at work. Gail, my wife, gave that to me quite a few years ago and I’ve tried my best to honor that message. For 20 years and 10 months, I’ve walked through these doors at the North Platte Telegraph, but the time has come to close that chapter of my life.

The beloved story of “Cinderella” takes on a new twist in the Playhouse's most recent adaptation of the original Rodgers and Hammerstein version. The characters will be a little different than the familiar king and queen, said director Darrell Drullinger. The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, 30 and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 1; 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 6-7 and 2 p.m. on Oct. 8. Tickets for adults are $18 in advance of $20 at the door. Kids are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
