BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Do you feel like the young driver in your life could use some extra practice? There is a free event this weekend in Bangor. Rule the Road is for 15 to 18-year-olds who recently got their license, permit, or are currently taking drivers ed. The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety sponsored event is made up of stations that simulate some real world situations.

NEWPORT/SEARSPORT, Maine (WABI) - A local restauranteur isn’t resting on his laurels as he expands his operations with two recent purchases. Jason Clay bought Governor’s a few years back. When he did, he knew he would keep his ears open to add more if the right opportunity came along. Enter Anglers owner Bud Hall who was looking to sell. Both parties starting communications about a year ago, and last week, the sale of the Newport and Searsport locations was finalized.

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - There is good and bad news when it comes to browntail moth caterpillars in the area. The good news is that a naturally occurring fungus wiped out a large portion of browntail nests this year. In Bangor, following a survey of city trees, only a few spots were found and treated. Those were in the Fairmount neighborhood. The bad news is there are still caterpillars around. They have recently hatched and are feeding now. You can spot them by their distinctive two orange dots.

WINTERPORT, Maine (WABI) - Things turned contentious at times during a Winterport town meeting Tuesday night. Emotions ran high after the town council voted to withdraw a lease agreement from the Winterport Dragway Association. The council voted to award a new lease to Crystal Lancaster. Lancaster and her partner spoke during the meeting saying they plan to continue racing at Fernald Field and asked for people to support them.

BREWER, Maine (WABI) - Here’s something to smile about. Tuesday’s at the Brewer Community School are the highlight of the week for a group of student whose first language isn’t English. That’s in large part because of the bond they’ve formed with members of the Maine Women’s Basketball team. Paula Gallego and Ona Alarcón were born in Spain. They are among a group of players on the Maine Women’s Basketball team that make regular visits to the Brewer Community School.
