    FROHNA, Mo. (WSIL) --Officials say a lightning strike from recent storms was to blame for fire that destroyed a historic building in Perry County, Missouri. The Missouri State Fire Marshal confirms lightning struck the Saxon Lutheran Memorial and Heritage Center Sunday night. Saxon Lutheran Memorial posted to their Facebook page, saying the fire did not spread to other buildings. They also stated everyone involved was safe.

    MARION, Ill. (WSIL) The Marion Fire Department was awarded $26,000 for new equipment. That money came from a $4 million grant program by the Illinois State Fire Marshal. The Small Equipment Grant Program helped 178 other fire departments and EMS providers across the state. This funding will be used to purchase "bunker gear," specialized protective clothing for firefighters, designed to protect against heat, flames, and hazards during emergencies.

    CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) – Carbondale Police are investigating a crash involving a pedestrian. It happened March 25 at 7:40 a.m. at the intersection of South Lewis Lane and East Grand Avenue. Officials say the crash involved a juvenile pedestrian and an off-duty Carbondale police officer. The Jackson County Ambulance Service responded to the crash scene.

The Tri-State Tornado stuck parts of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and southwest Indiana, on March 18, 1925. In our area, impacted communities include Gorham, Murphysboro, De Soto, Hurst-Bush, Zeigler, West Frankfort, Eighteen, Parrish, CrossvilleMurphysboro was one of the hardest hit, with nearly 300 people killed, and thousands of buildings destroyed.
