Invisalign Arena in Morrisville, N.C., has welcomed plenty of smiling faces through its doors over the years. Recently, the Carolina Amateur Hockey Association teamed up with the Carolina Hurricanes and Hockey Players of Color to welcome nearly 50 athletes from the U.S. and Canada to Invisalign Arena for the second annual HPOC Movement Summer Camp.

Despite the warmer weather of spring and summer, when green grass replaces the cold ice in outdoor rinks across the country, the sport of hockey continues for players, coaches and officials alike. It’s a particularly important time on the calendar for young referees and linespersons, who use the months of May through August to hone their craft, and make sure they’re prepared for the upcoming season of youth, junior, collegiate and professional competition.

It may seem odd on the outside that the United States and Canada would be open to helping each other get better on the ice. However, collaboration between the rival countries was one of the benefits of the IIHF Women’s High Performance Camp held this July in Finland. Katie Million, the director of women’s national team programs for USA Hockey, explained that both the U.S. and Canada have a history of workingtogether to help grow the game.

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The final day of games at the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase took place here today at USA Hockey Arena with Finland erasing a two-goal deficit to best Sweden, 5-3, and the U.S defeating Canada, 5-4, in a thrilling game decided in a shootout. The event served as an evaluation for athletes seeking to make their respective national teams for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, set for Dec. 26, 2024, through Jan. 5, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario.
