BLAINE, Minn. – Sietske Morgan glanced up at T.J. Stewart’s jersey hanging inside the Super Rink on Friday morning before taking a moment to compose herself with the help of her teammates at the 2024 USA Hockey Blind Hockey Classic.
Morgan had become so used to hearing Stewart’s encouraging and caring voice booming on the ice as he stood tall in goal ever since she first met him at the 2018 USA Hockey Disabled Hockey Festival.
“Just having T.J.’s jersey up there, I lost it,” Morgan said.

One of the fastest-growing segments of disabled hockey, blind hockey features an adapted puck that makes noise and is both bigger and slower than a traditional puck.
Players’ levels of vision range from legally blind – approximately 10 percent vision or less – to totally blind.
Custom three-foot-high nets are used (rather than the traditional four-foot nets) to keep the puck low to the ice so it can make noise and be tracked aurally.

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – There was plenty of praise to pass around at the 2024 USA Hockey Sled Classic, presented by the NHL.
It wasn’t just USA Hockey or the NHL that was singled out. The host Dallas Stars worked with those two organizations, the Stars alumni and two of the eight Children’s Health StarCenter rinks for a smooth operation.
Each entity cooperated to host a successful event.
“We’ve benefited a lot,” said Andy Gibson, executive director of Dallas Stars Adaptive Sports.

Teams in six different tiers were crowned champions this past Sunday at the 2024 USA Hockey Sled Hockey Classic, presented by the NHL.
The NHL was a true partner, going beyond the NHL team names and logos that adorned the players’ sweaters.

The U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team will have one goal on its mind when the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup gets underway Aug. 5 in Edmonton, Alberta.
“Whenever you go to these international events, whether it’s the World Juniors or [this event], you’re competing for gold,” said Garrett Raboin, head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team. “You’re going with gold-medal ambitions, and that’s no different this year.”
The U.S. has finished second eight times since the event began in 1991.

The event serves as an evaluation for athletes seeking to make their respective national teams for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, set for Dec. 26, 2024, through Jan. 5, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario.

The 2024 U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team features 10 players who helped the U.S. to a second-place finish at the 2023 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Chomutov, Czechia, as members of the U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team.
