One of the largest public hospitals in Australia has apologised for the "hurt and frustration" caused to junior doctors whose attitudes were criticised in a leaked email sent by a human resources official. The ABC understands the email was sent by mistake on Wednesday afternoon to one junior doctor at Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital in response to a workplace issue. A screenshot of the email is now being widely circulated online and among doctors around Australia, with many sending it to the ABC.

Intense storms continue to sweep over large parts of New South Wales, with the latest fronts bringing marine-rescue dramas and giant hail to northern areas of the state. A wild storm front caused chaos on the waters around Tweed Heads on Thursday afternoon. Point Danger Marine Rescue Commander John Murray said several yachts were ripped from their moorings, and a vessel with a teenager on board was drifting towards the Barney Point Bridge.

The shock withdrawal of Sydney's two teams from the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) has amplified calls for more pro-standard rinks in the country. Urgent renovations at Sydney's Macquarie Ice Rink have forced the Sydney Ice Dogs and Sydney Bears off the ice for the 2025 season. Both sides use Macquarie as their home rink. The AIHL said it was initially told works would take about eight weeks in April and May but advised last week it would now be unusable for the entire 2025 season.

Police in New South Wales have found a convicted killer who went missing from the state's central west earlier this week. Michael Aller, 58, went missing from Orange on Wednesday but police confirmed on Saturday he had been found. In a statement, police said Aller had been taken to hospital for "admission and assessment". Aller was found guilty of manslaughter in 2015 for killing his girlfriend Amy Aiton during an argument in 2012.
