EAMC President Laura Grill was named one of the “Women Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know” for 2025 by Becker’s Hospital Review. EAMC is also the third hospital in the state to perform robotic surgery with new equipment.

A man died after his vehicle collided with a train in downtown Auburn early Thursday morning, according to Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton. Christian Smaw, 22, of Birmingham, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 a.m. after crashing with a CSX freight train, Sexton said. Smaw was the only person in the car, officials said. At 8:52 a.m., Auburn police reported that the train had been cleared from the tracks and Gay Street is closed as they investigate the scene.

As the summer draws near, a heat advisory has been issued for Lee County and the rest of Central Alabama, according to the National Weather Service's forecast office in Birmingham. The heat advisory will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to NWS. The forecast shows afternoon temperatures between 94 and 98 degrees today and a heat index up to 109 degrees.
