The annual Burger Wars event in downtown Opelika on Saturday, May 31, will serve the community great burgers straight off the grill. Burger Wars will be at 11 a.m., across the track from Opelika’s Touch-A-Truck event. The Opelika Rotary Charitable Foundation has hosted the grilling competition since 2015, and the event was a hit with both the grillers and the hungry crowd, according to the Opelika Rotary Club website.

A new steakhouse in Auburn will be celebrating its grand opening on Tuesday. After celebrating with a soft opening on Wednesday and Thursday, Angus Steakhouse will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m Tuesday. The new restaurant can be found at 1212 Gatewood Drive, where was formally located Foodies Gourmet & Bodega. The grand opening will consist of a speech given by Dimitri Washington, Angus Steakhouse’s operations manager.

Church of the Highlands will celebrate the grand opening of its new Opelika location on Sunday. Located at 3300 CR-162, the new church offers seating for 800 people and spaces for small groups, youth ministry, Highlands Kids and community service projects. “The Opelika area is growing, and we’re honored to grow along with it,” said Lead Pastor Mark Pettus. “We can’t wait to serve more, gather more, worship more and do all that our new campus home allows us to do.

More than nine months after the June 16 fire destroyed the Stone Martin Builders headquarters in downtown Opelika, the company announced plans to open a new building more than a year later. The home builders company will host its grand opening in early July at its new 107 North 9th St. location. The new building can be found at the former site for the CyberZone Entertainment. Public Relations Executive Madeleine Williamson said the headquarters will have new furniture shipped in.
