TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. — A 61-year-old man was arrested and charged with the death of his father after allegedly running over him multiple times and driving away, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said. Mark McKeown struck and dragged 86-year-old Thomas McKeown Saturday evening in the parking lot of R Bar, deputies explained in a statement. During a preliminary investigation, detectives learned that while walking in front of a black truck driven by Mark, Thomas had fallen to the ground.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida shopper was in for quite a surprise on Saturday after locating a human skull in a thrift store in North Fort Myers, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said a shopper, who happened to be an anthropologist, noticed the skull in the Halloween section and recognized it to be human. The store's owner said the skull was located in a storage unit that was purchased years ago.

SPRING HILL, Fla. — Two teens are dead after the car they were in went off the road, overturned and collided with a tree Saturday night in Spring Hill, Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash happened a little after 11 p.m. when a 17-year-old driving a Toyota Camry south on Mariner Boulevard, north of Santee Street, went off the road into someone's yard, overturned, and collided with a tree. FHP said the two teens killed, 17 and 16, were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Lakeland man seriously injured after hit-and-run crash involving pickup truck

LAKELAND, Fla. — A 29-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a lifted pickup truck Friday night, according to the Lakeland Police Department. The man was reportedly attempting to cross US Highway 98 North near the Lakeland Crossing shopping center when he was hit by a dark-colored pickup that was trying to switch from the center to inside lanes going south, police said in a statement. The driver of the truck reportedly tried to avoid the man but was unsuccessful.

TAMPA, Florida — A woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning in Tampa, according to a news release. The crash happened a little after 8:20 a.m. near West Hillsborough Avenue and North Church Street, police said. Drivers are asked to avoid that area as detectives investigate the crash, and roads are closed. The department said the driver of the vehicle did remain at the scene of the crash.

TAMPA, Fla. — Three people are in the hospital after an impaired driver struck the back of a Florida Highway Patrol car that was parked inside a construction zone in Tampa, according to a news release. The crash happened around 4:43 a.m. Saturday when a 24-year-old driver of a Kia Forte going north on Interstate 275, south of Interstate 4, drove into an active construction zone. FHP said the zone had been marked by traffic cones and arrow boards, which signaled that the left lanes were closed.

TAMPA, Florida — A man is seriously hurt after a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Tampa, according to police. Roads on Meridian Avenue between Jackson Street and Kennedy Avenue have been closed due to the crash, Tampa police wrote in a statement. An adult male passenger was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and the driver has been detained. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Across the Tampa Bay region, there is a rising demand for locally crafted brews as more than a dozen microbreweries opened for business in 2023. The Tampa Bay Business Journal recently reported that 13 new craft breweries added their name to a list of more than 100 breweries in the region, including three planning to open up later this year or early next year.
