    BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Tuesday is April 15th, which means it’s Tax Day. Tax Day is the deadline for filing both federal and state income tax returns here in Maine. We spoke to the experts at Marshall Planning LLC in Bangor. They say if you’re filing a paper return, it needed to be postmarked Tuesday. However, there’s a midnight deadline if you’re filing online. If you’re reading this and suddenly remembering you forgot to file, there are still options.

    HOULTON, Maine (WABI) - Next month, Houlton Regional plans to become the latest hospital in the state to cease labor and delivery services. It’s the fourth Maine hospital that’s announced plans to close birthing units during this year alone. The closure at Houlton Regional now leaves a labor and delivery desert stretching more than 150 miles from Bangor to Presque Isle. Both patients and providers are worried about the potential impacts to maternal and neonatal health.

    BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The United States Postal Service recently announced what it’s calling “refinements” to service standards. Phase one got underway Tuesday. The Postal Service says while most mail delivery will be unchanged, some may have a faster standard, and others may have a slightly slower standard. These changes are projected to save at least $36 billion over 10 years.

    HOULTON, Maine (WABI) - Another Maine hospital is shuttering its labor and delivery unit. Houlton Regional Hospital announced Thursday afternoon it will be closing its Labor and Delivery Unit effective May 2nd at 7:00 a.m.In a post, the hospital calls the decision “painful” and says it was not made lightly. Houlton Regional says its labor and delivery volume has steadily declined over the past several years to the point it’s no longer possible to offer these services.

    BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A familiar face is taking over the top leadership role at St. Joseph Healthcare in Bangor. Covenant Health System announced this week Gregory LaFrancois is joining the organization as senior vice president. He will also take on the role of president of St. Joseph Healthcare. As of April 1, LaFrancois stepped into the role previously occupied by Mary Prybylo, who announced her retirement in January after 14 years as president.
