WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Hundreds of auto workers across Metro Detroit will be temporarily out of a job, starting today (Monday, April 14). Earlier this month, both General Motors and Stellantis announced they would be temporarily laying off workers for reasons that are not related to President Trump's tariffs. GM is laying off about 200 workers at its factory zero plant in Detroit, while Stellantis is pausing production at Warren Truck Assembly Plant, where 1,000 workers will be forced to stay home.

United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain is speaking out about the impact of tariffs on the auto industry. Fain gave an address to the union on Thursday night with his message about the overall state of the industry that's rooted in Detroit. He took to Facebook Live to acknowledge what UAW members may be feeling now that 25% tariffs are in effect on auto industry imports and tariffs on everyday items are in flux. Fain made it clear the UAW supports the targeted tariffs and reforming free trade.

DETROIT'S EAST SIDE (WXYZ) — A Detroit firefighter is recovering after falling through the floor while battling a house fire. The fire broke out overnight at a home on Detroit's east side around 2 a.m.EMS rushed one firefighter to St. John's hospital after he fell from the second to the fire floor fighting this fire. The windows are already boarded up because the building is vacant. Fire officials say the fire started on the second floor, weakening the floor boards.
