DOUGLAS − Thanks to the help of three different grants and several members who took time to apply for those grants, the Douglas Elks Lodge No. 955 recently donated over $8,000 to three different local organizations. According to Susan Molina, who has taken over the grant writing duties from the late Debbie Wendt, one grant was for $4,000, another $2,500 and the third was for $2,000.

DOUGLAS − Six Douglas High School seniors who will all be attending school at Cochise College this fall were each presented with $500 scholarships at the 55th Annual Memorial Day Baseball Classic that was held May 24 and 25 at Copper King Stadium. The Douglas Dawgs, managed by Jesus Hughes, won two games from the Los Angeles Broncos winning 19-4 on Saturday and 25-15 on Sunday, battling back from an 8-0 first inning deficit in the process. kAm!C:@C E@ $F?52J’D 82>6 2 C64@8?:E:@?

DOUGLAS — As the nation honored those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice on Memorial Day Monday, May 26, Douglas had its own ceremony in the veterans’ section of Calvary Cemetery where a relatively small group of an estimated 100 Douglas residents gathered to remember and honor those who had served this great nation of ours. Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony in Douglas was hosted by the American Legion Fred Hilburn Post #11 which provided a pot-luck luncheon after the event.

DOUGLAS − In front of a standing room only crowd at Armando De Lucas Stadium, the Douglas High School class of 2025 celebrated the completion of 13 long years of school Friday, May 23 as 267 soon to be graduates were presented with their high school diplomas and officially declared high school graduates. The ceremony included some heartwarming remarks from valedictorian and student council president Nicole Michel; salutatorian Alina Del Castillo and senior class president Adamris Byrd.
