    For the uninitiated, Palm Springs, California is the gayest city in the country, and maybe even the world. At least a third of the city’s population of 45,000 identifies as gay or lesbian. The desert city is about a two-hour drive from Los Angeles in good traffic and a little over an hour’s flight from San Francisco. The city has long been a getaway for Hollywood elites as well as the LGBTQ+ community.

    To say that Portland supports the LGBTQ+ community may be an understatement. Oregon’s largest city, with a population of 630,000, goes out of its way to honor the community. Portland became the first major U.S. city to elect an openly gay mayor, Sam Adams, in 2008, narrowly beating out Houston by a year for that honor. That tradition of acceptance has only grown since then. The city’s famed drag artist, Walter Willard Cole, who performed under the name Darcelle XV, died in 2023 at the age of 92.

    Thursday, January 9, 2025, will be a postal holiday to honor President Jimmy Carter, according to the US Postal service. Carter died on December 29, 2024, at the age of 100. What does that mean for mail delivery and Post office hours? The US Postal Service says it will suspend regular mail delivery and close Post Offices on January 9. So, no mail will be delivered to homes on Thursday, January 9.  Will USPS deliver packages on Thursday, January 9?

    A prosecutor in the Mexican state of Baja California told reporters this week that it is unlikely that the killing of the out owner of a popular LGBTQ+ nightclub in Tijuana was a hate crime. Meanwhile, friends of Omar Guido Chávez held a funeral caravan to his club, Sodoma, on Tuesday and they are planning a memorial at the club Sunday, October 27. Chávez, 51, disappeared on Wednesday, October 16.
