Several La Crosse organizations, including the city itself, will host a dozen events next week to bring awareness to the area’s fight for affordable housing. La Crosse Housing Week will spotlight local experts in development, housing policy and sustainability April 28 through May 3. Habitat for Humanity, Couleecap, AARP and other social service groups have all partnered to launch the first event of its kind.

The city of Onalaska will not participate in the town of Campbell’s bid for village incorporation. Onalaska’s city council, fresh with two new faces, decided Tuesday night they will let the incorporation process play out however it will. That leaves the city of La Crosse as the lone dog in the fight against Campbell’s incorporation petition. Onalaska city officials discussed the decision in a closed session to confer with their legal counsel.

New faces, new appointments and new interest in La Crosse governance rang in the swearing-in ceremony for the city’s mayor and new council members. City clerk Nikki Elsen said it was the best attended ceremony she had ever seen. After the swearing-in ceremonies, Tamra Dickinson was elected the new La Crosse city council president after a secret ballot-style vote at city hall Tuesday.
