Police search for Benton murder suspect

CADIZ, Ky. (WBKO) - Kentucky State Police are looking for a Cadiz man wanted for murder. KSP Post 1 investigators said Claude E. Russell is accused of killing Lia Thompson, 49, at her home in Benton last month. Police said the murder was a targeted incident. KSP said evidence was presented to a Marshall County Grand Jury that resulted in an indictment against Russell, 48, of Cadiz. Detectives are actively searching for Russell.

According to the What Could BG Be? team, Bowling Green residents weighed in more than one million times during a 33 day window of the online survey - What Could BG Be? The report indicates that 7,890 local residents responded 1,034,868 times on a variety of topics that could help shape the future of Bowling Green and Warren County. The survey window was open during February and March of this year.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Bowling Green Police are investigating a man’s death after responding to a shooting call Tuesday morning. It happened around 9:00a.m. near the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bowling Green on Nashville Road. Police said they found a man’s body in the woods. BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Bowling Green, Kentucky has been experiencing historic flooding Friday as severe storms moved through bringing torrential rainfall to the area. The City of Bowling Green said many roads are impassable and conditions are expected to worsen as even more rain has been forecasted through the weekend. The city’s stormwater sewer system and cave systems are overwhelmed, said Debi Highland-West, public information officer with the City of Bowling Green.

Investigators released surveillance images of a man they are hoping to identify. According to police, the unknown suspect used a victim’s information to open credit card accounts at two businesses. They’re accused of using the card to make fraudulent purchases at both businesses.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - The Bowling Green Police Department has released a mugshot of a man they said is “armed and dangerous,” and they need your help to find him. Investigators said Michael White has multiple warrants out for his arrest. The 28-year-old was recently arrested by BGPD on June 24, 2024, accused of kidnapping. White was released on bond following that incident. Meanwhile, White was already out on bond stemming from an indictment in December of 2023.

Spinal stenosis is a condition that puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves, which can cause pain. This announcement comes after nearly a year since he had surgery on his back for the same condition. It’s unclear how long his recovery will last, but we expect him back on the anchor desk when his doctor gives him the all clear.

Below is a list of events taking place across the region. Thunderfest - The 53rd Thunderfest event has moved to a new location. This year, Thunderfest is located at Ephram White Park at 885 Mt. Olivet Rd in Bowling Green. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on June 29, and there are currently no plans for advance-ticket sales.
4 killed in storm-related incidents in Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WSMV/WBKO) - Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced during a press conference on Monday that four people were killed during Sunday’s storms. Governor Beshear confirmed that three women, ages 67, 62, and 48, died from injuries sustained from the storms. Additionally, a 34-year-old man was killed. Beshear also said a fifth person is in critical condition and clinging to life.
Bowling Green home damaged during severe storm

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - A line of tornado-warned storms moved through South Central Kentucky Sunday night, and one area of Bowling Green took the brunt of it. Numerous downed trees and power outages were reported in the immediate aftermath, and one home on Allen Michael Lane suffered extensive damage. When our crew arrived at the scene of the home that had damage, o one was there. There’s no known injuries at this time.
