A total of 21 incidents were recorded last month and questions have been asked as to what has sparked the surge. Concerns were raised at a Largs Community Council meeting that offenders might be using public transport to target the town. Community councillor Robert Stevenson witnessed one incident where a group admitted to shoplifting and were seen boarding a train. A member of the public alerted police on June 12 after noticing an object said to be "resembling a handgun". The matter featured in a police report to Largs Community Council. It stated that the incident took place on June 12 in Court Street. A police spokesperson said: "This was a report by a member of the public seeing an object resembling a handgun in a person’s possession who was showing it to another person.

Clyde Coast and Cumbraes Men's Shed, which provides a place for people to meet up, make new friends and learn skills like woodwork, has taken ownership of the Brisbane Centre from North Ayrshire Council (NAC). The £3,700 asset transfer was completed over the weekend, with the building to be used to host community-based activities. North Coast councillor Ian Murdoch, who is chairman of the Men's Shed, said: "We can make all sorts of changes now as NAC no longer own the building.

The new limits, which are expected to be implemented by the end of 2025, will be subject to a 12-month review period to assess their effectiveness.
