(WAFF) - Out of 32 student-athletes from across the Tennessee Valley, Lydia Carter from Lindsay Lane and Landon Broadway from DAR were honored, Wednesday night the recipients of the Athlete of the Year scholarship. Both excelled in their sports and in the classroom but went the extra mile to give back in their communities.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The high school track & field season concluded on Saturday with over 60 student-athletes from the Tennessee Valley who finished on top the podium. The Scottsboro boys’ and girls’ teams swept the field, winning team State Titles in class 5A. This year’s title was the third straight for the Lady Wildcats. Meanwhile, the Whitesburg Christian girls pulled off back-to-back class 3A state championships as a team, breaking a state record in the 4X800 relay in the process.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Alabama’s freshman phenom Ryan Williams came to town Saturday to host his first of two youth football camps over the weekend at Milton Frank Stadium. Hundreds of campers ages 6-16 attended the camp, receiving hands on instruction from Williams and other coaches. The second camp of the weekend took place in Hoover, Alabama on Sunday. (WAFF) - In a day packed with postponements on the diamond, the Madison Academy baseball team is one win away from advancing to the State Semifinals with a 1-0 win over Lawrence County on Friday night. An old-fashioned pitcher’s duel for most of the game, but the Mustangs pushed one across in the seventh to win the series opener. Next up, Game Two set for Saturday at Huntsville High School, first pitch has not yet been determined.
