A bomb had to be detonated on a seafront after it was discovered in a garden shed. People watched as officers set off the device, believed to be a wartime mortar shell, at Minster Leas Beach on Sheppey. Police were initially called to Rose Street in Sheerness at around 2pm yesterday (May 26). Pictures show a bomb disposal unit stationed along the residential street.

A mum says a unique sport has helped her teenage daughter go from “strength to strength” after she was diagnosed with ADHD. Hayley Whitehouse knew her daughter Evie Huggett had struggled from a young age, but believes taking up baton twirling has changed her life. While the physical activity has helped the 13-year-old thrive, there are aspects of it that she still has to battle with. The teenager, from Lynsted near Sittingbourne, has autistic traits as well as hypermobility and sensory issues.

Residents on a new-build estate who have been stuck with a “nightmare” internet provider are still worried after the housing developer announced the sale of its broadband service. Those living in Mascalls Grange Estate, Paddock Wood, shared their initial frustrations with KentOnline reporter Elli Hodgson in January. Made up of around 375 new-build homes by developer Persimmon, the area has its own broadband network that only provider FibreNest could access.

More than 70 Little Ships set sail from Kent to Dunkirk this morning in honour of the 85th anniversary of Operation Dynamo. Commemorative events, exhibitions, services and parades are set to take place throughout Ramsgate over the next week. Today (Wednesday) the Little Ships are travelling 45 miles to arrive back in Ramsgate on the Bank Holiday Monday (May 26) between approximately 3pm to 4pm.
