SPENCER, Ind. — Owen Valley Middle School witnessed an extraordinary display of community spirit this week, as social studies teacher Marc Ruble fulfilled a unique challenge to support a student’s battling cancer. Ruble woke up on the school's front lawn, on Friday morning, not just in a tent, but dressed as the iconic video game character, Mario. The heartwarming story began when 7th grader Kira Herrington was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

SHELBYVILLE — After a sudden lease termination by the City of Greenwood, Jeff Air Pilot Services will relocate its operations to Shelbyville Municipal Airport. Officials say the move will ensure that the flight school’s students, veterans, and aviation professionals across Central Indiana experience no interruption in their training. The transition to Shelbyville Municipal Airport will begin on March 15th, with full flight school operations resuming on April 1st.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police are investigating a crash that killed a man on the city’s south side. Officers were called to East Raymond Street and Shelby Street around 7:15 a.m. on Thursday and found a male victim with injuries consistent with trauma. The man, who appeared to be riding a bicycle at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. The IMPD fatal crash investigation team is handling the investigation.

Two elderly homeowners are recovering after an overnight fire on Indianapolis' south side. Firefighters responded to a call just before 3:00 a.m. Friday morning at a home on Garfield Drive near Shelby Street. Upon arrival, crews found one resident on the roof of the house and the other in the front yard. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. According to firefighters, the fire originated in the basement of the home.
