    PLATTSBURGH — The SUNY Board of Trustees has named Ken Knelly as the acting president of Clinton Community College as it undergoes the move to SUNY Plattsburgh’s campus this fall. CCC made the announcement in a Facebook post Wednesday. “I am pleased the SUNY board has taken this step to solidify leadership during our transition,” Devi Momot, chair of the Clinton Community College Board of Trustees, said.

    PLATTSBURGH — Those who have not made it to the Plattsburgh City Beach yet will be in for a treat when they get there. In the off-season, the City of Plattsburgh made improvements to the beach’s main area that will make it more enjoyable for beachgoers. Improvements include new bathroom facilities, an outdoor rinse station on the west side of the main beach building and a new roof. The new bathrooms have been in the works since last fall and were completed recently.

    PERU — Late New York State Police Captain Christopher J. Garrow used to drive over the Carpenter’s Flats Bridge in Peru every day to work. Now, the bridge is named after him as the “Captain Christopher J. Garrow Memorial Bridge.”Garrow, who was born and raised in Peru, served as a dedicated member of the New York State Police for 23 years.

    PLATTSBURGH — A redevelopment project at 5500 Peru St. in the City of Plattsburgh was recently awarded a $405,000 state grant. The project will include the rehabilitation of a former recording studio called Wayward Sound Studio into an active mixed-use property that includes 4,300 square feet of commercial space and two affordable apartments. As previously reported by the Press-Republican, Wayward Enterprises LLC, run by James Ward of Plattsburgh, is the owner of the property at 5500 Peru Street.

    PLATTSBURGH — The Micro Bird deal is getting statewide honors. The attraction of Micro Bird, the electric bus manufacturer set to replace Nova Bus at its Banker Road facility in the Town of Plattsburgh later this year, to Plattsburgh was recently recognized as the “Economic Development Project of the Year” by the New York State Economic Development Council. The award was presented at the annual meeting of the Council in Cooperstown.
