PLATTSBURGH — The New York State Public Service Commission has approved a $37 million NYSEG project that will increase electrical grid capacity at the Kent Falls substation in Plattsburgh. The project will add 30 megawatts of new capacity to the station, which will enable vehicle and building electrification, including a major industrial electrification project, a press release stated. The North Country project is one of 29 across the state to get approved.

PLATTSBURGH — The closure of the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base is continuing to haunt the town of Plattsburgh nearly 30 years later. Supervisor Michael Cashman said Monday the base’s infrastructure, much of which is Cold War-era, is quickly deteriorating and the town is struggling to fix the damage as it arises. Cashman said that last year, the town fixed several sinkholes that threatened utilities and disrupted activity at a costly price.

PLATTSBURGH — The man charged with killing two women late last year in the town of Plattsburgh has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. Joe Hewett pled guilty in March to two counts of second-degree murder, one count of third-degree arson and two counts of concealment of a human corpse for the murders of Miranda R. Wade (Mero), 42, and Karen A. Lindsay (Besaw), 64, a mother and daughter both of Plattsburgh, who were found dead in black garbage bags near their home at 2 Birch St. on Dec.

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh High School Select Vocal Ensemble was recognized at City Hall, Friday, for its recent accomplishments, which included receiving one of the highest honors for choirs in New York. Music Director Cody Hampton said the ensemble traveled to Malone in May to perform at the 2025 New York State School Music Association Choral Majors Festival, which included receiving evaluations from two professional judges who evaluate choirs from all over the state.

PLATTSBURGH — The SUNY Board of Trustees has named Ken Knelly as the acting president of Clinton Community College as it undergoes the move to SUNY Plattsburgh’s campus this fall. CCC made the announcement in a Facebook post Wednesday. “I am pleased the SUNY board has taken this step to solidify leadership during our transition,” Devi Momot, chair of the Clinton Community College Board of Trustees, said.
