LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The father of missing veterinarian Dr. Shawn Frehner told police he doesn’t believe his son would do anything to harm himself, according to a missing person report filed the day after Frehner disappeared. Frehner has not been seen or heard from since Sunday, April 6, after a video went viral that showed him kicking a colt in the head at a Pahrump property. The Nye County Sheriff’s office is investigating him for animal cruelty following a complaint from the horse’s owner.
Mother of teen killed in beating near his Las Vegas high school sues school district

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The mother of 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis, who died after being beaten by a group of teens near Rancho High School, filed a lawsuit against the Clark County School District. In November 2023, several teens kicked and punched Lewis in an alley near the school. The beating was captured on video. Lewis died a week later from severe brain trauma suffered in the beating. Nine teens, all Rancho High School students, were arrested and charged.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A person was struck by an RTC bus and seriously injured Thursday morning, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan police. The crash was reported just before 5:30 a.m. Police said the bus was traveling westbound on Lake Mead Boulevard when it struck a person who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital. Lake Mead Boulevard is closed to traffic at Marion Drive, west of Nellis Boulevard. Police advise drivers to find an alternate route.

Edward Dukes, 28, was arrested following the Tuesday afternoon crash near Lone Mountain Road and Rainbow Boulevard.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The bail for an ex-volunteer coach at Palo Verde High School was increased to $2 million after new charges were filed against him for allegedly sexually abusing children. Michael “Luke” Atwell, 73, is facing 11 counts of lewdness with a child and one count of sexual assault against a child under 14, according to court documents. These charges are in addition to the more than 30 other charges for the same alleged crimes filed in November 2024.
Southbound I-15 lanes reopen after full closure south of Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The southbound lanes of I-15 near Sloan Road, south of Las Vegas, were closed to traffic, according to the Regional Transportation Commission. As of 1 p.m., at least one of the lanes was back open, according to the RTC. The RTC posted an alert on X that drivers should expect delays and find alternate routes, if possible. There is no word on why the lanes are closed to traffic. This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
