As the victim tried to get up and walk away, Daly lunged again. While standing over him, Daly headbutted the victim, breaking his glasses, which cut his forehead. A brief struggle followed before Daly helped the man up.

The Taupō District Council has been ordered to pay its tenant $4100, after it allowed her to live in “freezing” cold and damp conditions for almost two years. The woman moved into the council-managed Housing for the Elderly complex on Rifle Range Rd in October 2021. People are only eligible for the units if they are aged 65 or above, have less than $15,000 in assets as a singleton or $20,000 for a couple and receive a benefit.

A former funeral director charged regarding a police investigation into mishandled burials has been dealt a new charge. The man, who cannot be named, was charged in March as part of Operation Lola, an ongoing police investigation into complaints about burials at Auckland’s Waikumete Cemetery. The alleged offending was discovered when bodies were exhumed due to damage caused by flooding in 2023. He faced charges of obtaining $18,000 by offering services as a funeral director in 2015 and 2022.
