Houston Grand Opera Houston's biggest opera company is showing just how adventurous it can be this month. HGO is staging the local debut of the contemporary opera "Breaking the Waves," a work based on the 2016 arthouse film from Denmark's bad-boy cinematic experimentalist, Lars von Trier. The brainchild of the composer-librettist team of Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek, the acclaimed work is set in '70s-era Scotland and stars Ryan McKinny and Lauren Snouffer.

It might be nearly Easter but, for fans of the Houston trio Khruangbin, this weekend was more like Christmas. Not only did the group return from constant touring to play its first show in the region in three years at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands on Saturday night, the band also played a pop-up performance at Cactus Music on Friday.

Beginning April 18, with the opening of "Sinners," the long-awaited horror-thriller from Ryan Coogler ("Black Panther") starring Michael B.
