PALMER, Alaska (KTUU) - A cell phone ban was passed Wednesday for all students in the Mat-Su Borough School District. In a regular school board meeting Wednesday night, the ban was passed in a unanimous vote. Beginning next school year, the ban would require school employees to limit the use of mobile phones and similar devices during instructional hours, including lunch and passing periods throughout the district.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A woman was hospitalized but is expected to survive after being trampled by a moose Tuesday afternoon, Anchorage Fire Department officials say. AFD said it responded to a moose attack on a trail in the University Park area around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday. The fire department says the attack involved a woman, a dog, and a moose. The woman sustained injuries to her lower body, AFD said.

ST. PAUL, Alaska (KTUU) - Two American F-16 fighter jets were forced to make an emergency landing in the remote community of St. Paul, located in the Bering Sea. Eielson Air Force Base officials confirmed Tuesday that the jets came from Kunsan K-8 Air Base on the west coast of South Korea. St. Paul City Manager Phillip Zavadil says the jets made an emergency landing on the island in recent days, and they are still there as of Tuesday afternoon.

CENTRAL, Alaska (KTUU) - Twelve Alaska Fire Service smokejumpers made their first jump of the season Saturday in response to a small wildfire in Interior Alaska. The Bureau of Land Management said that an AFS helicopter crew and Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection engine crew assisted in the response. That night, AFS quickly contained the Crooked Fire at about 25 acres near mile 117.5 on the Steese Highway, about 7.5 miles west of Central.
