    A Homer woman convicted of killing a friend the day he helped her get out of jail was sentenced this week to serve more than 68 years in prison. Keith Huss, a 57-year-old Soldotna resident, was found dead in September 2020 along the Seward Highway at a Turnagain Pass pullout. Prosecutors say Sarah Dayan, now 39, shot Huss several times after paralyzing him with the first bullet and then ran him over before leaving him in the pullout.

    A 24-year-old man has been arrested in the 2021 killing of an 18-year-old female whose body was found at an East Anchorage baseball field. An Anchorage grand jury on Friday indicted Daemon Sterlin Carlton As’Kim Hill on charges of first- and second-degree murder in the death of Katelynn Leigh Shelhamer. The teen’s body was found in June 2021 at the Nunaka Valley baseball fields near the end of Craig Drive. A judge issued a $1 million arrest warrant on Friday.

    May 1—PALMER — A Wasilla man was arrested this week on charges he abandoned a 16-year-old girl on a snowy ATV trail in November after she overdosed on a powerful opioid he gave her, according to charging documents filed Thursday. The body of Alena Toennis was found the next morning on the trail, behind a storage company off Seldon Road near Wasilla.

    The 17-year-old found dead in a car in the Fairview neighborhood early Sunday has been identified by family members as Aaron Jon Edwards Jr.His stepmother, Candace Edwards, said in a post on social media this week that the family considers the young man they knew as “Junior” to be a victim of homicide. “We do not have many details, and don’t have answers to any questions,” Edwards wrote in a post sharing the news about her stepson with family and friends.
