The owner of a private jet registered in Alaska that crashed early Thursday morning in a San Diego neighborhood is among three people confirmed dead. The jet crashed into military housing during foggy weather, igniting cars parked along a suburban block. By Thursday afternoon, local media were reporting there were six people aboard the plane and no survivors.

May 22—The owner of a private jet registered in Alaska that crashed early Thursday morning in a San Diego neighborhood is among the dead. Initial reports indicate at least three people died when the jet crashed into military housing during foggy weather, igniting cars parked along a suburban block. The Cessna S550 went down at about 3:45 a.m.The jet hit a powerline before striking a home, according to a National Transportation Safety Board briefing around midday Thursday.

An Anchorage attorney whose license was suspended in February is now jailed on felony federal charges involving drug trafficking and weapons. Justin Abbott Facey, a defense attorney who operated out of an office on Eighth Avenue, was arrested Wednesday after a federal grand jury indicted him on charges of maintaining a drug-involved premises, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of firearms by a prohibited person.

A 62-year-old man imprisoned at Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward became Alaska’s most recent in-custody death late last month. Alvin Lynn Archa Jr. died of a drug overdose, as determined by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation and State Medical Examiner Office, according to a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety. State corrections officials said Archa was pronounced dead just before 4:30 a.m. on April 24.

May 15—Anchorage police on Thursday identified the man shot and killed by an officer Monday night on Bragaw Street as 41-year-old Utuva Alaelua. The incident began with a traffic stop for a broken headlight just after 11:30 p.m. on Bragaw Street in the area of Peterkin and Thompson avenues, police Chief Sean Case said during a media briefing Tuesday. Two officers contacted the driver and a passenger. Both officers said they saw a gun in the driver's "lap area" during the stop, Case said.
