GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — SpartanNash employees gathered this week in big numbers at DeVos Place Convention Center for the company’s annual Helping Hands Day. Around 700 SpartanNash associates, and representatives from W.K. Kellogg Co., Musselman’s, Hormel, CA Carlin, Dunnhumby, Kellanova, joined forces to pack nearly 15,000 boxed meals.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Mercantile Bank is strengthening its support for local students by expanding its partnership with Grand Valley State University’s (GVSU) TRIO Upward Bound program. The latest addition to this collaboration is the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis’s (FHLBI) Money Masters Scholarship Program. Over the next three years, the initiative will provide $75,000 in scholarship funds to empower students financially as they pursue higher education.

BUSHNELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Work to change the landscape of more than 590 acres has started in the Sheridan area. Officials from DTE Energy, along with leaders and land owners from the area, broke ground on the new Fish Creek Solar Park, a 132-megawatt clean energy facility. The project, led by DTE, is a step toward reaching the company’s — and Michigan’s — renewable energy goals.

The money it raises helps ensure quality end-of-life care, regardless of age, diagnosis or financial circumstances. Over 1,000 people headed to DeVos Place Saturday to support — and sample barbecue and bourbon from 22 different vendors.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — For Ena St. Germaine, a fourth-grade teacher at Burton Elementary, teaching about the branches of government isn’t limited to textbooks and tablets. She has used immersive civics education for the 37 years she has taught at the elementary school. “Burton feeds my soul. When I’m working at Burton, the families, the kids, they are so excited to learn, they’re ready to learn,” St. Germaine said. The state academic standards for fourth graders include lessons on civics.
