WASHINGTON (WVLT) - Every year since 2007, veterans in East Tennessee have traveled to Washington D.C. for free, visiting the monuments built in their honor that they might not have ever been able to see. It’s something that would be impossible without Eddie Mannis and his group of volunteers. Mannis oversees HonorAir, a program that takes East Tennessee veterans to the nation’s capital free of charge. “Sometimes it seems like yesterday, and then it seems like a lifetime ago,” Mannis said.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Lincoln Memorial University Women of Service Fashion Show is back this year. It’s happening at Tex Turner Arena on August 22. The event features more than a dozen local businesses showcasing the latest fashion and beauty trends for 2024. LMU’s Women of Service organization raises money and creates scholarships for students. They also organize food pantries on and off campus. They’ve provided women with more than a dozen scholarships to continue their education.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Monday, almost six months into American Medical Response’s latest contract with Knox County, we heard how changes to the ambulance provider are helping response times. Reports from the county show that the situation has improved from where it was several months ago, but there’s still work to be done. AMR’s June data showed, for the first time since the new contract was implemented, on-time response rates of more than 90% in two of the three districts it covers.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knox County data obtained by WVLT News show that ambulance response times in and around Knoxville are improving, but there’s still room to grow. The latest numbers come as American Medical Response (AMR) is about to enter its seventh month under a new contract.
