STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you are looking to do some shopping on Sunday, be warned -- many retailers are closed in observance of Easter. Several major retailers announced in recent weeks they will be closed on Sunday, April 20, including stores like Target, big-box retailer Costco and discount grocer Aldi. Lowe’s also joined the other retailers recently in announcing its locations will shutter on Sunday. Other businesses will operate on a special holiday schedule.

Mayor Eric Adams’ administration has joined a lawsuit with the MTA to contest the Trump administration’s efforts to eliminate the city’s congestion pricing program, according to recent reports. On Friday, both the city and state Departments of Transportation signed onto the legal case that the MTA filed in February after the Trump administration made moves to end the controversial tolling program, the New York Post reported.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As winter begins to wind down, we’ll soon usher in Daylight Saving Time, when we “spring forward” and extend the sunshine longer into the evening. Daylight Saving Time 2025 officially begins on Sunday, March 9. Clocks will move ahead at 2 a.m. We’ll lose a bit of sleep, but we’ll enjoy an extra hour of daylight in the evening. Standard Time began on Nov. 3, 2024.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) will conduct road maintenance efforts across Staten Island next week, from Monday, Feb. 24, through Friday, Feb. 28. No paving or milling is planned. Crews are scheduled to work in various areas day and night throughout the borough, according to the DOT. The maintenance may require unannounced street closures and delays, the agency stated.
