LIMERICK businessman JP McManus arrived in style at day two - Gold Cup Day - of the Punchestown Racing Festival via his helicopter. The Limerick man arrived just after 3pm ahead of the Adare Manor Opportunity Series Final Handicap Hurdle which kicked off the second day of racing at 3.40pm. Mr McManus' horse Ballybawn Belter proved victorious in the first race of the 2023 Festival with a hard-fought victory with young jockey, Charlie O'Dwyer at the helm.

STUDENTS from three city schools took part in An Taisce's Green-Schools Travel ‘Bus in the City’ event. The unique interactive workshop took place on March 21. It is delivered in partnership with Bus Eireann and is a focused intervention designed to promote public transport for schools located on existing public transport networks. The event also aimed to support students from special schools who will soon be transitioning to independent transport modes beyond post-primary.

A MARY Immaculate College (MIC) academic has been awarded €300,000 in funding to lead the Irish stage of a European project aiming to boost the transformation towards a climate-neutral, sustainable, productive and competitive ‘blue economy’. Dr John Morrissey, lecturer in Geography at MIC, will lead the Irish research element of Aquabalance, a project under the European Union’s Blue Economy Partnership programme.

A SCHOOL bus which is serving the Shannagolden and Foynes area “is not big enough” to carry all students looking for a ticket, according to a Limerick mother. The 33-seater school bus brings students in the west Limerick communities to and from Salesians Secondary College in Pallaskenry. The service was previously out of commission but has now been reinstated with the larger 33-seater bus now being used.
