The body of Matthew Bauer was found on Wednesday near Oak Island after a two-day search. Matthew’s family said he was someone who brought energy and joy everywhere he went and always went the extra mile to bring a smile to people’s faces. What started as a typical day of fun at the beach on Monday turned into the unimaginable.

HOLDEN BEACH, N.C. (WGHP) — The body of a missing swimmer from High Point was recovered at Holden Beach on Wednesday, according to the Holden Beach Police Department. On Monday at around 3 p.m., emergency crews responded to a water rescue regarding three people struggling in the water on the east end of Holden Beach. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, two individuals returned to shore, but a third was lost from sight.
