In line with the national observance, the Lake County commissioners unanimously passed a resolution declaring April as Autism Awareness Month in Lake County. Autism is a developmental disability that affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that one in 36 children in the United States would be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

House Bill 27, which seeks to dedicate the Interstate 90 bridge over the Grand River in Perry Township in memory of U.S. Army Specialist Jacob A. Ashton, has been passed unanimously by the Ohio House of Representatives. Ashton, 21, was a decorated veteran assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, and had recently returned from a nine-month tour in Iraq.
