SANDUSKY — A local model railroad club is continuing an annual tradition by scheduling two open house events in December. The Eerie & Mad River Model Railroad Club, 1309 N. Depot St., Sandusky, has scheduled the events for two Saturdays in a row:• Steam locomotives in the model train setup will be featured from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. • Diesel locomotives will be running from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Admission to both open houses is free, although donations will be accepted.

SANDUSKY — Are you working on your Christmas shopping list? If so, don’t forget your dog or cat. The Erie County Humane Society recently began taking orders for $25 pet stockings. Stockings can be ordered for a large dog, a small dog or a cat. The pet stockings are a longtime fundraiser for the humane society. But they also simplify holiday shopping for one's pet along with a friend or neighbor who might have a cat or dog, said Melissa Gundlach, the humane society's executive director.

An Olympic medallist said the feeling of participating in the Games was unlike any other as he hopes to compete again in 2028. Peterborough gymnast Jake Jarman secured bronze in the men's floor exercise in Paris, five days after helping Great Britain to finish fourth in the team event. The Olympic debutant was cheered on by inspired gymnasts at his home club in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, and said he hoped to compete in Los Angeles in four years time.

Ozzie, who is a five-year-old terrier cross, has been missing since 10 May. His owners spent the whole of their holiday on the Lizard peninsula trying to find him but had to head home empty-handed. But local people have set up a Facebook page to share sightings and have promised to keep up the search.
