While the Denver Broncos have been connected to the first and fringe Round-1 running backs in this year's NFL draft, we don't actually know the team's philosophy on the subject. Broncos head coach Sean Payton has been involved in two draft hauls that selected a running back in the first round during his former tenure in New Orleans. Broncos GM George Paton was involved in the Dalvin Cook pick in Minnesota, but that was in the second round.

The Denver Broncos have defensive line on the brain with the NFL draft 10 days out. Perhaps it's the jaw-dropping clinic the Philadelphia Eagles displayed in their beatdown of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, or the Broncos' preemptive motivations with three D-linemen enterin a contract year, but the position group is very much on the table in the draft. According to 9NEWS' Mike Klis, the Broncos will meet with Oregon defensive tackle Jamaree Caldwell at some point this week.

The worst-kept secret in the NFL is the Denver Broncos' need for a running back. After a poor collective showing from the running back corps in 2024, the Broncos allowed their starter, Javonte Williams, to depart in free agency, compounding the need to improve there this offseason. Broncos GM George Paton has already stated publicly that they'll draft a running back, but the question is, where? Which round? As many as 20 (or more) backs could be drafted this year.

The Denver Broncos have been linked to various prospects in the first round since the pre-draft process kicked off back in January. Many of those names have evolved as time has marched on, but the mocksters have been busy predicting which prospects will not only be there at pick No. 20, but which one(s) the Broncos will ultimately fall in love with. While nobody has a crystal ball, Newsweek's Bryce Lazenby tapped three prospects as the "best fits" for the Broncos at No. 20 overall.
