More snow on the heels of a holiday will have some Kansas Citians holding onto their trash and recycling for several extra days. After having no pickup on Monday, Feb. 17, for President's Day, Kansas City also canceled pickup on Tuesday and Wednesday due to the snow and cold temperatures that have hit the area and are likely to continue. As a result, homes with regular Monday and Tuesday pickup won't get their waste collected until Feb. 24 and 25, and those residents will be allowed extra bags then.

In the Wichita area, Sedgwick County and other area cities offer free recycling of real Christmas trees.

It's time to find the cutest cat in the Kansas City area. After The Star received about 50 submissions of adorable furry friends, voting has begun in Round 1 of our cat contest. From Tuesday, Nov. 26, until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, you can vote on which 22 cats should advance to Round 2. In addition to sharing some delightful photos with us, Kansas City area cat owners also shared tidbits about their cats' origin stories and personalities.

The Eagle’s cutest cat contest has come down to a battle between tuxedos, torties and tabbies. Over four rounds of voting, Eagle subscribers have helped narrow the field of adorable cats from more than 150 to the final four. Now it’s time for readers to choose the No. 1 cat. Voting on the final four will go from Tuesday, Nov. 26, to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1. Then the winner will be featured in an Eagle story in December.
