Goose Island Campground ready for the season

STODDARD, Wis. (WXOW) — We may be a few weeks off from the thought of camping, but a major step toward kicking off camping season happened Tuesday. Goose Island Campground officially opened Tuesday morning. The campground said over two dozen people are already checked in at the campground for the camping season. They said they are at about average numbers in terms of reservations.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — As we near the end of another week, another protest occurred in La Crosse. This one comes one day after reports have said over 1,300 Department of Education employees received official separation notices. A group identifying themselves as “Eagles for Equity” gathered under the clock tower Friday on the UW-La Crosse Campus. They say they are making their voices heard on the dismantling and restructuring of the Department of Education and beyond.
Country Boom may still be interested in County Farm

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) — The La Crosse County Executive Committee voted not to sell the old La Crosse County Farm Wednesday morning. Three groups showed interest in the county property outside West Salem. One of the proposals was to possibly relocate Country Boom to that location. 19 News spoke with the planner of the project to relocate the country music festival after the vote.

WEST SALEM, Wis. (WXOW) — The possible move of Country Boom to a plot of farmland in West Salem has been put on hold, at least for now. There were three groups interested in the Old County farm near West Salem. As we reported, Country Boom wanted to move its music festival there and build hundreds of homes. The idea had some support. "The Country Boom proposal may not be perfect, but I believe that it is good,” West Salem Village President Scott Schumacher said.
Coulee Region to see many major construction projects

COULEE REGION, Wis. (WXOW) - A common saying around Wisconsin and the Midwest is that there are two seasons, winter and construction. Across the Coulee Region, the latter is beginning to get underway. Governor Tony Evers approved construction work for Wisconsin 131 through the heart of Crawford County. LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Saturday, protesters took to the streets of La Crosse near the former K-Mart building as part of the Hands Off! National Day of Action. The day is what organizers called a nationwide mobilization to stop President Donald Trump and Elon Musk from what they said is “the most brazen power grab in modern history.”“What is it going to take to get you to fight for what is right,” Tasha Lewis, a Co-Organizer of the La Crosse Hands Off! Construction resumes in downtown Viroqua

VIROQUA, Wis. (WXOW) - Construction in downtown Viroqua resumed earlier this week. Those traveling on Highway 14 can expect merging and traffic lane closures from South street to Jefferson street. According to the Viroqua City website, work is occurring on crosswalks, bump outs and a new traffic signal. The city website said the work is expected to take two weeks. Plans indicate possible move for Country Boom

WEST SALEM, Wis. (WXOW) - The Coulee Region's premiere country festival could be seeing a location change from Maple Grove Venues near West Salem. Plans for Country Boom are set to be presented in front of the La Crosse County Board of Supervisors at their upcoming Monday April 7 meeting. The plans include buying 85 acres of the old county farm near West Salem. 60 acres would be for Country Boom's grounds while 25 acres would be phased for development.
Emplify by Gundersen employees displeased over union contract negotiations

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Employees at Emplify by Gundersen are making their voices known regarding contract negotiations between the hospital and their union. A number of Emplify by Gundersen Health workers who are a part of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) are calling on the hospital to rethink worker benefits along with union contract negotiations. CNAs, Housekeepers, and Dietary Aids along with City Council members and State representatives attended the conference.
