LA CROSSE COUNTY, Wis. (WXOW) - It was a first of its kind Saturday morning as the Izaak Walton League Upper Mississippi River Chapter held its first public event. The celebrate the Upper Mississippi River event offered all who attended the chance to exercise the chapter's mission to get outside and play, learn, exercise and get involved with the Mississippi River. Canoeing, fishing, river mussels and a flood plane hike were just some of the highlights of the event.

COULEE REGION, Wis. (WXOW) - Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed and Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were shot and wounded at their homes Saturday morning in what Governor Tim Walz is calling an “act of targeted political violence.”The actions have Coulee Region residents speaking on the shootings. “Well I think it's obviously very disgusting and it was very targeted,” Charles Boyle, a La Crescent, MN resident said.

Eckhart Park has left its mark on the youth of Vernon County but is showing its age and is now needing the ideas from those who have enjoyed it for the park’s future. At first glance, you likely don’t see ailments on Eckhart Park’s playground equipment. But as you look closer, fading and chipping paint, deteriorating and splitting wood rear their heads.

FRENCH ISLAND, Wis. (WXOW) - It was a beautiful night to be out on the water and that is exactly what some families in the Coulee Region did Thursday night. The River City Water Ski Team hosted a “Learn to Ski Event” open to the public at Airport Beach on French Island. Those attending learned the basics when grabbing the rope and putting on the ski's such as where to keep your hands and how to crouch while being pulled. Oliver Evans was one of twenty Coulee Region kids attending the event.
