Local volunteer group works to help those in need during Thanksgiving

LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW) It's another indication of people in this area concerned about others. In this case, a local group called, Everyone Needs a Helping Hand. Volunteers travel to local retailers who donate the food for people who would benefit from that generosity. The first two years, the meals were provided for Delania Heller's home. But as the project grew, they moved to the American Legion in La Crosse.
UW-L names new fieldhouse in honor of former chief business officer

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) The relatively new fieldhouse on the UW La Crosse campus now has the name of one of the University's influential leaders. Bob Hetzel was Chancellor for Administration and Finance. In July, he retired after 17 years of service. The fieldhouse is one of the buildings that opened under Hetzel's leadership.

One man injured in what police believe is an isolated incident

WEST SALEM, WI (WXOW) - West Salem Police are looking for a man they believe is connected to an altercation on Jefferson Street. It happened October 21 about 7 PM. Police went to the 341 East Jefferson Street where they found a man whose throat had be cut by another man who left that location in a red semi-truck with a trailer. The injured man had substantial, but non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released from a local hospital. Police believe the incident is isolated.

Mayor vetoes council approved Pump House funding request

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) The Pump Hours requested an additional $13,000 from the city to repair damage discovered while renovating restrooms in the building but gets turned down by the mayor. The City of La Crosse owns the building the Pump House occupies. Executive Director Allison Krzych says they're responsible for the upkeep of the inside of the structure. She says according to the lease, the City is responsible for the shell of the building.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) It's an annual event. Motorcycle riders raising money for juvenile diabetes. It's called the Thunder Ride. Members of that group, including a representative from Rod's Ride on Power Sports, presented the Gundersen Medical Foundation with a check for $50,000.
