Platform tech provider Fundment has raised £45m in a funding round led by private equity firm Highland Europe. The new funding, which is subject to regulatory approval, included participation from ETFS Capital. It will be used to invest in Fundment’s product development, scaling the team and future expansion. Fundment has become one of the leading tech platforms for financial advisers and their high-net-worth clients.

The UK has defied widespread predictions of recession in 2023 but the outlook remains challenging. Quarterly GDP growth has been declining from its already modest levels throughout the year and there was no GDP growth in the third quarter of this year. The latest forecast from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) puts GDP growth at an average of 1.6% between 2024 and 2028, and it expects inflation will not return to its 2% target until the end of 2025.

So far, this has been another difficult year for fixed income. Headline inflation has fallen steadily in the UK, US and Europe since it passed its peak some months ago. However, government bonds have experienced further declines as markets have had to continually reassess the trajectory and terminal point for interest rate hikes. The yield on 10-year UK gilts increased from 3.65% to 4.65% since the beginning of 2023.
