CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Great Kills resident Patrick Gardner signed a contract with the High Point Rockers on Sunday morning, then made an impressionable start during a 10-6 Atlantic League of Professional Baseball victory over the Long Island Ducks later in the day. Left-hander Gardner, who recently completed his collegiate career with the University of Pittsburgh after a successful stint with Fairleigh Dickinson University, hurled the first four innings for the Rockers on Sunday.

TAMPA, FLORIDA — A German shepherd which belongs to a Wesley Chapel family is currently recovering after it was attack by an alligator in its own backyard earlier this week. The pooch, named “Zeus,” was dragged head first into a nearby pond, but miraculously escaped and although he was bleeding profusely, the dog managed to swim back to land. The dog’s owner, Susan Al-Khatib, immediately rushed the pooch to medical care. Zeus was treated for a displaced jaw and a number of punctures on its neck.
