The Linn County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 32-year-old Dorena man who was injured during logging operations in a forested area off Canyon Creek Road east of Sweet Home, Sheriff Michelle Duncan said Friday. A 911 call was made at 3:07 p.m. Thursday requesting help for an immediate rescue, the sheriff said in a news release.

The left lane of northbound Interstate 5 about 6 miles south of Albany will be close for up to several hours starting about 9 p.m. Thursday, according to the the Oregon Department of Transportation. The closure will allow for the removal of a semitruck that was in a crash on the freeway Thursday morning, ODOT said. Drivers were asked to slow down and watch out for crews working to remove the truck.

Woodburn Police said a 15-year-old was struck by a train and killed about 4 p.m. Friday. A preliminary investigation indicated the teenager from Woodburn was struck by a Union Pacific freight train as they attempted to cross the railroad tracks in the area of Stark Street and Ogle Street, police said. Settlemier Park and the Woodburn Teen Center are on the west side of the tracks along S Front Street.

The first Powerball jackpot of 2025 was sold in Oregon and is worth $328.5 million, according to lottery officials. The winner purchased the winning ticket in Beaverton on Thursday, Jan. 17, the Oregon Lottery said. The retail location will not be revealed until a winner has come forward. The winning numbers for the Saturday drawing were: 14, 31, 35, 64 and 69 and Powerball 23. The winner has a year to claim their prize, Oregon Lottery spokesperson Melanie Mesaros said.
