Passengers have thanked a Qantas captain for his calm response to an in-flight emergency on a Perth-bound flight from Western Australia's Midwest. The Fokker 100 aircraft left Geraldton at 9am but turned back a short time later, circling north-east of the city's airport for a short time before landing without incident. Speaking after disembarking at Geraldton Airport, passenger Loic Foison said the issues became apparent around 45 minutes into the flight.

A burned-out delivery truck sitting at the side of a major highway in country Western Australia sits as a symbol of a Christmas that failed to arrive for many locals. The prime mover, operated by Team Global Express, was near Regans Ford, about 120 kilometres north of Perth, when it caught fire just before 11pm on December 23. The fire was safely extinguished and no-one was injured.

A Rockingham man has been has been jailed for his role in the death of at least eight calves at a farm in WA's Midwest. Warning: Some readers may find details and images in this story distressing. Maison John Alexander Booth was driving at a property in Howatharra, 30 kilometres north of Geraldton, after midnight on August 20 when he began to deliberately run down the calves with his Toyota Prado.

Nervous residents in a string of coastal communities north of Perth have been urged to shelter in place, as a bushfire front edges closer to a number of towns. The fire, which has burned through more than 65,000 hectares of bushland, continues to threaten the coastal communities of Cervantes, Wedge and Grey in WA's Wheatbelt. Emergency warnings remain in place for the communities, with residents told yesterday that it was now too late to leave.
