Four people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a townhouse in Harewood this afternoon. Nanaimo Fire Rescue, B.C. Ambulance Service and Nanaimo RCMP were called to a townhouse complex at 490 Gardasan Way in Harewood, shortly after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, when it was reported a fire had started in a second-storey bedroom. “Upon arrival the initial command saw flame and smoke showing from the second floor…" said Troy Libbus, Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief of operations.

The City of Nanaimo has gotten a first look at plans for a complex care facility to be constructed on the edge of Green Rock Industrial Park. The proposal from Ryder Architecture was presented to the city's design advisory panel Thursday, April 24, showing a three-storey, 22-unit project at 1850 Boxwood Rd. between Dufferin Crescent and Madsen Road on a lot that has been vacant since it was created in 2018.
