Elementary school transformed into a day care prepares to open

A partnership between Canadore College and the Lindsay Weld Centre is hoping to fill the gap of the high demand for child daycare in the North Bay area. Canadore College, which originally purchased the old E.T. Carmichael School on the north end of North Bay off Chapais Street, was planning to turn the old school into international student housing.
Chief Longworth bringing police training to North Bay

North Bay Police Chief Daryl Longworth is trying to find ways to cut costs at the service. One cost-cutting measure they are building on is trying to host Ontario Police College (OPC) courses in North Bay. "We have found some efficiencies in running training in-house as opposed to sending people on courses, where we only send one or two people on a course in the south," he said about local training compared to sending officers to Alymer, home of the OPC in southwestern Ontario.
U13 AAA Trappers fall in OHF final to Colts

The Descon North Bay U13 AAA Trappers fell 4-2 to the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey Federation U13 AAA final which took place in Sudbury on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Adekoya and Sawyer Gedanitz scored in regulation as the Trappers fell behind 2-1 after two periods. Luke Kanyo, Avery Sherrit, Andrew Martins and Ryan Robbins scored for the Colts, with Robbins's goal coming into an empty net. It's the first time since 2019 for a North Bay AAA Trappers team to make it to an OHF final.
Former MP, councillor and broadcaster Bob Wood passes away

Multiple media and social media sources have indicated that Bob Wood has passed away. He was 85 years old. Wood represented the riding of Nipissing in the House of Commons from 1988 to 2004 as a member of the Liberal Party and worked for North Bay City Council from 1975 to 1978.
Four locals selected in OHL Priority Selection

A trio of Trappers and a pair of local defenders who chose to play hockey in southern Ontario were selected in the two-day 2025 OHL Priority Selection which wrapped up early Saturday afternoon. The North Bay Battalion used two of their picks to stay local, selecting U16 AAA Trappers forward Owen Smith in the 11th round, 209th overall and U18 AAA Trappers defenceman Karter Buchmann in the 13th round, 261st overall.

For decades, Brian Milne has been a driving force in North Bay's track and field community, making a profound impact as a coach for both the NDA high school program and Legion Track.
