The North Bay Golf and Country Club is hosting this year’s Canadian Junior Boys National Championship.
“It’s probably one of the biggest in North Bay history and all of northern Ontario,” said course manager Jeff Mancini.
“I believe Timberwolf hosted this same event a few years back … So just to have the top junior boys in the country here for a national championship is very special.”
There are 156 players in the tournament ages 14-18 with at least one player from each province.

Lakeshore Drive at Booth Road and Olive Street at High Street by Cassellholme in North Bay will see speeds reduced – as two new community safety zones will be established.
City council approved the motion brought forward by city staff who said people in the community and the North Bay Police Service made requests that speeds be reduced.
The areas are Lakeshore Drive at Booth Road, by Omichl Sports Complex and Sunset Park School as well as at Olive and High Street by Casselholme.

Sisters Olivia, Emma and Chloe Scriven have spent the first month of their summer packaging and preparing bags full of essential items for the homeless in North Bay.
“We took the bags and started filling them,” said Chloe.
“We put dental bags, which included tooth brushed a razor, floss.

The Canadian Cancer Society says it is short on volunteer drivers in the North Bay area.
Volunteer drivers are apart of the Wheels of Hope program and drive cancer patients to their appointments and home.
“If we have five to 10 people out there that like to drive and have a half a day or a few days a month, please consider volunteering with us,” said Mark Kahan, a volunteer coordinator with the cancer society.

A North Bay-area woman who was facing a manslaughter charge in connection with an overdose death has instead pled guilty to trafficking.
Stephanie Slack, 36, admitted to selling the victim fentanyl before she died, but her lawyer said there was no evidence that the fentanyl caused the victim to die.
Slack was sentenced for trafficking and given a sentence of two years less a day, to be served in the community.

North Bay Pride typically hosts a pride parade locally, but this year, because of online and in-person hate, it’s going to be a march.
“We feel strongly that we need to go back to our grassroots that pride is a protest,” said Jason Maclennan, communications director for North Bay Pride.
“The clear message from us is that equity and inclusion is a human right and that you cannot deny that.

The federal government is spending $950,000 on YES Employment in North Bay.
The employment agency will use the money to help those with disabilities find work.
“The stats are showing there are people out there living with disabilities that can and want to work and have knowledge and skills to contribute to the workforce,” said YES Employment CEO Leeanne Maille.

Tré Shields, originally from Iroquois Falls, left northern Ontario 10 years ago to pursue his acting dreams down south.
Shields, 27, is currently head knight at Medieval Times in Toronto.
“As the head knight I’m responsible for training the future knights and the current knights in the show,” said Shields.
“I’m training them on the fights in the show and the jousting, all the choreography ... I work with the horse trainer, the horses and the fighting.
