North Bay city council says it has heard loud and clear about the affordable housing issues in the community. That’s why it has launched an initiative to give cash to cover building expenses to convince homeowners to develop additional housing units on their property. The additional housing unit (ADU) grant aims to convince property owners and builders to develop more units on existing or new homes with an incentive of up to $25,000 to cover the cost.

The riding of Nipissing-Timiskaming got a lot bigger in 2023, spreading north to include Englehart, Evanturel, Charlton-Dack, Chamberlain and Elk Lake. Retiring Liberal MP Anthony Rota has held onto the seat six times out of seven elections since 2006. In the April 28 federal election, there are five candidates seeking to win the seat. Liberal Party candidate Pauline Rochefort is currently in her second term as mayor of East Ferris.

North Bay police now have an extra helping hand in their patrol vehicles with a new Automatic Licence Plate Reader systems or ALPR for short. Hooked to the windshield of the car, while on patrol, making for a new set of eyes on the hunt for traffic violators and suspended drivers. “This really is a game changer in policing,” said Insp. Jeff Warner.
