Wilson’s Big Lots store is one of many across the state that will reopen after Variety Wholesalers Inc., a Henderson-based retail store company and the parent company of Roses, purchased the brand in January. “That one will be in our third wave of reopenings,” Jeff King, vice president of sales and marketing for Variety Wholesalers, told the Times. ELM CITY — Off-duty deputies with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office will not be stationed in town overnight for the time being, Mayor Tawanda Moore announced at the town’s board of commissioners meeting Tuesday night. Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Staff Wanda Samuel told the Times on Thursday that due to Elm City’s investigation by the state auditor’s office, the offer to station off-duty deputies in town under special assignment is suspended.

The city of Wilson is bringing three historic Tarboro Street properties up to code to save them from demolition. Public Works Director Bill Bass told the Times that the 129, 131 and 133 Tarboro St. properties were acquired by the city after the building’s former owner decided it was not worth it to save the buildings.
