BELLEFONTE — The Centre County Board of Commissioners held a short and sweet meeting on Dec. 12 at the Willowbank Building in Bellefonte. Let’s go back in time, shall we? The year was 1988. It was a typical Friday night in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. As usual, my friends and I wound up where we spent much of our childhood, adolescence and college years — Showcase Cinemas North. Showcase Cinemas were some of the first multiplexes to hit the suburbs. On a typical Friday night, you’d see most of the North Hills High School student body at Showcase Cinemas. Of course, there’s “It’s A Wonderful Life,” “A Christmas Story” and “Elf.”Last, but certainly not least is 2000’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” starring Jim Carrey. I first saw the film in a small movie theater in Clearfield. I remember not having very high hopes for the film. Truth be told, I was not a big Carrey fan. I fully expected him to ruin one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books. Boy, was I wrong.
