A new presenting sponsor and a little arts funding from the city of St. Paul are going a long way for the 2025 return of Lowertown Sounds, which just announced the lineup for its nine free concerts in Mears Park this summer. A few well-known Twin Cities artists will play the Thursday night outdoor series for the first time in 2025, including Dr. Mambo's Combo, Yam Haus and Molly Brandt. They join a list of returning Minnesota favorites on the June 12-Aug.

The twice-indicted Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will play the St. Paul hockey arena on Aug. 19 as part of a nine-show solo run. Tickets for the Tuesday night concert go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster, with presale options beginning Thursday.

Bluegrass music bookings at the Minnesota State Fair have gone down in recent years after the revamp of the West End Stage and unplugging of the Ramperg Senior Center, so it's a fine time for a couple popular bands of that ilk to step up and play the grandstand in 2025. Poppy, banjo-laced hitmakers the Avett Brothers will headline the fair's big stage on Aug. 29 with another bluegrassy crossover band, the Milk Carton Kids, for openers.

"It's been fun planning for the day and figuring out how everything works," said Swanson, who opened her new shop in July.

Went out with cannons ablazing. Look for @startribune up soon. #poweruptour @acdc https://t.co/FIVE1pE3dV

I can’t tell if Brian’s rather ragged voice is getting better as the show goes on, or I’m just getting more used to it? Angus on the other hand has been hitting like a brick to the face all night.
