Steven Craig Hopkins, U.S. Army veteran, family man, and master craftsman of classic muscle cars, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Clarkesville, Georgia, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Hermosa Beach, California, Craig (AKA Cougar or The Coug) served his country with honor in the Vietnam War from March 1968 to March 1969 as a Radio Operator with the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry (Big Red One).

By: Bill Kinsland-In southern Appalachian tree lore, the “Sarvis” Tree (Amelanchier arborea) is greeted like an old friend as its downy-looking blossoms begin to appear on barren limbs in the cold first days of Spring. They first appear in our lower elevations around 1300 to 1600 ft. in early-to-mid March….then the flowering season appears to progress higher in elevation up to the 3,500 ft level by mid-to-late April.

(Cornelia)- Two people, including a woman from Cleveland, have been arrested on drug trafficking charges after an investigation Wednesday night outside a Dollar General store in Cornelia, according to the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office. Jeremy Keith May, 34, of Demorest, and Meagan Brooke Hutcheson, 25, of Cleveland, were taken into custody by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and Special Operations Unit, which included K9 officers.

Jean Carnet, 77, of Clermont, GA passed away at home in the loving arms of his family on March 16, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Hargrove Carnet; his son Marc Carnet, Marc’s wife Debbie and their two children, Luke and Clara (Tucker, GA); and his daughter Catherine Elisabeth Everett, her husband Ben Everett, and their three children, Jubal, Georgia and Maren (Ft. Campbell, KY); and his sister, Nadine Dangleterre and brother-in-law Christian Dangleterre (Chatillon, France).

Ms. Judy K Miner, age 79 passed away on March 15, 2025. Judy was born in Indianapolis Indiana, on December 1, 1945. Judy was a long-time resident of White Co and member of the White Co. Senior Center. Judy found joy in her faith, family and friends and the love she shared with those around her, she will be deeply missed by all those that knew her.
