    Mrs. JoAnne Webster Thomas, age 76, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Mrs. Thomas was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to the late Clifford and Opal Webster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gwenell Knight. Mrs. Thomas was a retired educator and a member of Mt. View Baptist Church.

    On Tuesday, March 4, 2025 the world lost a big, bright light when God called Jordan Bennett Penney home at the young age of 39 years old. Anyone who knew Jordan often described him as a Man’s Man. He had an outlaw spirit driven by adventure, yet tempered with a protective and kind-hearted nature for those he loved. The youngest of three boys, “Jordy B.” was born on September 11, 1985 to Anne & Bill Penney Jr. and was the baby brother of Barrett & Jay.

    (Clarkesville)-Wood’s Mercantile, well-known for its quality home furnishings and expert customer service, announced on March 28 that it will expand with a second location in Cleveland, Georgia. The new store will open in the summer of 2025 at the former Babcock Furniture site at 735 Helen Highway. The building is currently being remodeled to mirror the look of the Clarkesville location.

    Laurene Sosebee age 89 of Cleveland passed away March 29, 2025, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Sosebee was born March 13, 1936, to the late Otis Faye and Lemma Deaton Keith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Bill) Sosebee, sister, Buell Jones, brothers, Hampton Keith, Ewell Keith, Harold Keith. Mrs. Sosebee was a retired Assistant Librarian for White County High School.

A news release said the county has been renewed as a StormReady® Community by the National Weather Service and has also been designated as a Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador, an initiative under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOA).
