Calallen is looking to become the first local softball or baseball team to win three consecutive state titles. The Lady 'Cats have some serious momentum after rallying in the series to beat fellow powerhouse Liberty, the team they knocked off for the last two titles.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Riviera Kaufer has a new Head Football Coach and Athletic Director in Jay Aleman, who comes over from Incarnate Word Academy. Aleman has been with IWA Athletics the last seven years, coaching softball and then football. Aleman started up the new six-man football program two years ago and then had his team play an 11-man game this past season as well. His Angels' softball team is also in the TAPPS state tournament later this week.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Orange Grove Lady Bulldogs' softball team was getting ready for the offseason about a month ago, but now they've found themselves in the 3A-I Region Semifinal thanks to a twist of fate. Orange Grove was in fifth place in the district standings and on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. Then, district foe London was forced to forfeit four wins for having an ineligible player, bumping the Bulldogs into the fourth and final spot.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The ultimate payoff for the high school baseball and softball playoffs might still be about a month away for the UIL teams, but for the Incarnate Word Academy Lady Angels, they're looking to bring home some gold later this week. IWA was out on the practice field Monday as they get ready to make their second TAPPS State Semifinal appearance in the last three seasons.
